Brand NewI am absolutely no experience in Apache -- well, no first hand experience, that is. Where do I start, where do I download? What do I download?
I have been trying to get serious about developing my web site. I have Windows XP Home Edition OS and I have not yet been able to get going. Do really need to explain my conclusion why I need to get Apache? In order to do Source Save, I need IIS. In order to use IIS, I cannot have Windows XP Home, I need to either get free Apache or buy Windows XP Pro.So, where do I start? What is a good plcae to get it and what is a good place to get information? |

Both, IIS and Apache are web servers. If it's possible to have both running at the same time I can't say for sure -- I think it's an "either/or" thingy.

BTW, I have no idea what "Source Save" is -- if that is not already obvious... ![]() To get Apache set up on your PC, simply go to apache.org, select the preferred version (there are currently 2; i.e. versions 2.0.+ & 1.3.+) and look for the link that fits your operating system; which in your case is win32. Look for the link that says something like: Win32 Binary (Self extracting): apache_1.3.33-win32-x86-no_src.exe. I am recommending you get the 1.3.+ version since this is your first install... Once you have that file downloaded, you can install it by simply reading the online documentation for installing the web server on Windows: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/windows.html __________________

If you have WindowsXP you can install IIS there for free - it is included on WindowsXP installation CD as well as it was included into Windows 2000 installation CD-ROM.
After installation of web-server you will have to check what is your current ip that you get from your ISP for internet access and ip as you typed 192.168.0.100 - is definitely some ip of your LAN and not ip of your ISP. |
