Question

Will this hardware configuration work?

Hi guys, im planning on ordering the following components:
-Aerocool Aeroengine jr. Black
-At Radeon 9600 PRO 256mb
-Standard 80mm fan (in addition to one in the case)
-DDR II Infineon 256mb ram (400 or 533 mhz, either can run on the motherboard)
-Intel D915PCYL motherboard
-My current processor intel 1.6 ghrz
-My current floppy drive
-My current CD-R and CD/RW reader and writer
-My current 40gb hard drive.

This configuration should cost me under 400 euros, and as you can see quite a lot of stuff I am using from my current computer as I am on a very tight budget. Personally i have never built a computer before and tbh im kind of a n00b in the area, but i was told it should not be too difficult and the main requirement is time and motivation, which il have loads of during the summer holidays

Think you guys can tell me in advance if this will work? And if not what would i want to add to it? My main intention is to play computer games if not at top qualitym then at least at a fair medium, thanks for any recommendations in advance.

I don't know what kind of games you're going to play but some are defenitely more resource intense than your 256mbof RAM will be able to handle. I would suggest upgrading your RAM to at least 512 and if your going to play World of Warcraft online like so many of us are I wouldn't do anything less than 1GB.

I think your processor will be plenty to handle almost any game out there and with the 256 MB card you should be good to go!

GREAT JOB in taking the step to build your own PC!! You can now field phone calls from all the people you know asking you to fix their PC.

From what I can tell that motherboard only supports PCI Express cards meaning that your ATI Video card will not work on it. May what to check around for a PCI Express video card or look for a motherboard that supports AGP 8X.

Although if you look into a new motherboard be sure to check the RAM again as the new motherboard may not support DDR2 memory.
