Online PDF Converter

I was hoping to get some feedback on a PDF Converter that I have put on my site. This uses a linux background utility called ps2pdf to convert postscript files to pdf files. It can even merge several postscript files into a single pdf file.

I generate pdf files of all of my reports that I do for work because it is possible to package everything in one file and everybody can access them. I was telneting into a linux box to convert the postscript files and thought a web-interface for it would be easier to use. In my opinion it is.

The site is: http://www.dbcservices.com/cgi-bin/pdf_form?new

It can also be accessed from the main page of www.dbcservices.com.

Anyway, here are my questions:
  1. Is this of any use?
  2. Are my explanations of how to use it clear?
  3. Is it too slow? It does have to upload every file that is submitted. Using it from my LAN it is very responsive. How slow is it from "outside"?
  4. Any other general comments would be apprecaited.

Thanks for your time!

i didnt actually try it out but it seems easy to use and useful
i have an adsl connection so i think id prefer to use my own software to convert to pdf
but i think many people might like this service
on the other hand i never convert files to pdf

your explanantions are very clear and it seems easy to follow
maybe you should give more details on the type of files that can be uploaded

also of course the design of the site needs a lot of work, but i guess you know that
good luck

I got a 'conversion error'.
Nothing wrong with things going, well, wrong, but it might be useful to put some debug info in there, or if you don't want guests seeing that, maybe a way to contact you so you know they got an error?

Otherwise, it looks like a nice tool. With a bit of dressing up, the page that it is on could be very popular.

Great point robokoder. It is still a little rough around the edges and it would be nice to know what caused the problem.

I have noticed that as long as the filenames are short and end in .ps I don't get any errors. This is used quite extensively at my work and as of yet I haven't investigated why this isn't more stable for longer filenames, etc.

I really appreciate the input from both of you!
