Yet another CD Burner problem.

The Problem: My CD Burner does not acknowledge the blank CD in in the drive. I've tried using different brands of blank CDs, but that hasn't worked. In iTunes, it asks me to "insert a blank CD", when it's already in there. It also gives me the message "The disc is in use outside of iTunes now". I tried it in Windows Media Player thinking (actually, hoping) that iTunes was just being wonky, but WMP gave me almost the same message: "The disc burner is currently busy". It's frustrating; sometimes it works and I can burn a CD just fine. I swear my computer's like a hormonal teenage girl - sometimes it'll cooperate but most of the time it's moody and just plain stubborn. -_-;

I apologise if this topic has already been addressed, but I'm getting quite frantic and any help would be greatly appreciated. So, thanks in advance!

I too have this problem w/ my Sony laptop. Normally I have to open/close the tray an average of 3 times before it's recognized. I haven't determined what the problem is yet; it happens in both Windows and Linux so I know it's not a software issue, nor a driver issue. The only thing I can think of is that the component that "notices" there's a CD inserted is broken.

How old is your system? Is it a laptop or desktop? It's possible the disc detector is failing; if it's a h/w issue then you may have to get a new drive.
