Google to dive into pay-per-impression adsGoogle has announced that it has begun testing a new version of its AdSense program that enables advertisers to choose the Web sites their ads appear on, to use animated graphical images on their banner ads and to pay based on impressions (instead of clicks). They have proposed some rules regarding minimum CPM rates and how their algorithm will pick between CPC and CPM ads to show, but this could have an impact on both publishers and advertisers.
I can see some earnings (CPC based) go down but I can also see a lot of new advetisers come on board to take advantage of the CPM models. It may also be more profitable for certain types of websites, most notably forums. |

Thank you for the news Div...
Right now, all I want to know is how do we know how many of the ads were of the CPM type? I thought there would be some changes to the reporting page but I have found no changes to the layout so far. Also, do you know if these CPM ads are only image ads or do they also include the regular text ads? __________________

I read other posts, in other forums, and it says that is based just on Images. We will see....

That is incorrect, they are not ONLY image banners.
I have seen the ones that are text only. They take up the whole space of the ad unit and in much larger fonts, similar to the PSAs but not in black (unless that is the colour you assigned to the links of course). |

If I got it right, as a result this implemetation, sites with high PR and vast traffic will be preferred mostly. Why would an advertiser want to choose a site that has average SERPs and traffic, except some based on a very specific topic with rich content? If I'm not mistaken, this will bring some loss to sites with average scales.

Re: Google to dive into pay-per-impression adsYep!
They are already paying pay per impressions ads and some of them pay quite well. __________________
