project in c

Hello Everyone, I am a beginner in C. I have to do project using C. I decided to do it in Hardware based. I have some idea. But don't this concept already exists or not.

My idea is: We have to control the PC power supply using timer like one exists in TV, Music systems. If we specify time it has to automatically shut down the system. Before shutting down the system it should save the applications currently working in dafault path specified.

Siimilarly, it has to start itself.

Tell me how much my concept is right and some tips to develop my project.

Uhhhmmm... you might want to think of a new project.

IF you are using Windows, or *nix, you could issue a shutdown command to the system, and hope that the open applications save themselves, but really, that's not a very good idea, as not all apps do shut down cleanly. Also, sometimes, a user might be 'Playing What If' games with something (oh, think Spreadsheet), where they don't want to save the what-if scenario. A forced save at shutdown could be disasterous.

But forget all that for now, exactly how, when the system is shut down, do you plan on having your program (which was also shut down) trigger a startup?

Yes, some BIOS's have that capability, if you want to play around in BIOS, but it's not a universal feature.

Or are you talking about some sort of embedded controller? an external thing, such as something like: http://www.zworld.com/products/bl1800/ ?
