Question

Debug problem with C# & C++ project

My project has many sub projects. Some of them are in C# environment. And the others are in VC++.Net environment. It could be debug by using break point OK before. But after adding some code, I can only use break point in C# parts and all break points are disable in VC++.Net parts. I don't know why although I didn't change anything on their properties.

Who knows why? Pls tell me. Thank you in advance.

Please clarify:
  1. What is the problem
    • can you still add new breakpoints in the C++ projects, but they have no effect in the debugger
    • or you can't even add new breakpoints?
  2. Which version of VS.NET are you using?
  3. What kind of dependencies exist between the projects in the solution (if any)?

Best regards,
Lucian

Yes, I can still add new breakpoints in the C++ projects but they have no effect. I'm using Microsoft Development Environment 7.1.3.88.
Can you tell me which reasons cause that problem?

Thank you very much,
hvtin

Well, I'm not sure, but please try this: create a new solution and add one (or more) of the VC++ projects to it. Try running the project this way (without any C# parts). Does the breakpoint mechanism work this way?

Regards,
Lucian

Well, I was talking to a friend about this problem. He asked: "Aren't the C++ projects built in Release mode instead of Debug?". I laughed at first, as this seems pretty obvious...than again, it's the "obvious" things we usually miss.
You might want to take a look for that too.

BTW, I dug pretty deep, and there doesn't seem to be a way of disabling the breakpoint mechanism from code. It has to do with the project settings for sure.

Best regards,
Lucian
