I've never used Nvidia, but I've been very happy with my Radeon. It is a made by ATI sapphiretech 8500 LE and I discovered to my delight that I could flash it to believe it was a proper Radeon. This quick fix saved me quite a lot of money. I think it ended up costing me £100 and that was not long after it came out. Someone told me that the 9000's weren't actually as good as the 8500's which hiked up the price for a while (lucky I beat it). I just had a look now on Watford electronics and its more now than what I paid for it. :-D
You can see my review on that from June 2002.

For the equivalent model "made by ATI" look here its nearly £300 which is ridiculous. That's twice the price of the computer I made my girlfriend after it physically blew up. (Scared the living daylights out of me).

Your talking about £341 for the 9700 top version and I'm afraid it just doesn't cut the cheese when you can see better performance improvements with the standard of one I bought and spend the other £240 on a better processor.

I've heard alot of good things about Radeon I personally own a NVIDIA Gforce 3 Ti 200. but I understand where your coming from on the price. The new Gforce 4 MX aren't as good as my Ti 200 but there like twice the price. But I have to admit that when I get the money I will be buying a Gforce3 4 Ti 4600 . I want that card bad but the last time I look the card was like USD 299 but I hopping that when the new MX card from NVIDIA come out the price will drop on the Gforce 4. What kind of processors do you use?

I had a look round for you and I found the card you wanted for $222 on here http://www.pricewatch.com/1/37/5024-1.htm for the 8X version and $184 for the normal here .

Don't know if that is still out of your budget, but at least the price is starting to drop.

This is currently still out of my budget, Thank you for looking for me but I'm poor person right now . But thank you and I'll save that page to my favorites because I'm going to be looking soon not sure how soon but soon and I'll check back there then and see how far the price as gone down. I don't think that the new MX will be released for another month or so I think not sure but it will be at least that long before I even start to look. BUt I can't wait to get my hands on that card.

I've been think about looking into ATI again. The only thing is that I had a Rage Fury pro 128, 64 MB and I didn't have anything but problems but it could have been that card or that set of cards may not have been any good. I'm not sure but I'm looking at there 9700 I think that the newest one.

ATI drivers for a long time have been unworthy of the hardware, in another word crap. They turned this round last year pulling out some great ones. However, I find myself using the ones at driverheaven made by Cyborg and Omega athttp://www.driverheaven.net/downloads/ (look at pages 3 &4 at the bottom after you click through) as they are optimised for speed and quality. They have NVidia one's too. What's funny is ATI gets advice from these guys, but doesn't release their drivers since they want to slowly implement the increase of quality in their drivers so people don't stay with their older cards.

As for the comparison between Nvidia and Radeon. Nvidia is superior in speed of pixels, but ATI came up with a crafty technique that uses curved triangles, which makes the clarity and sharpness of the image that much better.

I think that I will try an ATI sometime soon here if for nothing else then to say that I tried it. I have to be honest when I say that I've been with a NVIDIA for sometime now and I've always been happy with their cards. But I've heard to many good things about Radeon not to at lease try it.
