One of the simplest ways of passwording your site is to use .htaccess to ask for a password with one of those access boxes appearing like they do when you go onto a secure site.

Check out http://mirage.golden.net/htaccess.html , which has got a .htaccess password generator, which you will copy into another file called .htpasswd within the same folder as the one you are trying to protect.

Oh and I'm presuming that your site is on an Apache webserver for this and not something else (its the most popular one).

Have you got a control panel for your website? If so then tell us and we'll see if there is another tactic for you.

Password-protecting Web Folders

There are tons of 'programs' that do this on those free to download script sites; depending on which server-side script you choose to use.

If you want to use PHP, I can help with some code if you want cause that's all I know... and it does the job.

And, that link that Rob pasted above, no need to go that far; [gid=http://www.desilva.biz/apache/pwdweb.html]Password-protecting Web Folders[/gid].

But he's right... that's Apache only!

Maybe ya can try bravenet.com ..
They require ya to paste some code onto to your webpage...

If you know how to play around with scripts, use cgi or php (I would prefer php)..

Good Luck!
