Major screen garbling problem...

Hey people, i got a serious problem, for no apparent reason my screen has started garbling, like it only happens when windows boots up the GUI, like the login and so on, sometimes after login when your in windows, kinda random, basically it'll start small, then it'll get worse and worse and screen wont update and cant move mouse and so on, and sometimes it'll go black then come back again.

ive tryed everything i can think of to fix it, and im starting to wonder if its the gcard and if so, how can i be sure?

...oh and it dont seem to do it in safe mode, least so far, its not done it in safe mode.

If it doesn't do it in safe mode, then odds are it's a s/w issue with Windows. Have you updated the drivers? What if you use the generic Windows drivers? Have you checked the heat levels of your system? Is your power supply being overtaxed?

BTW, what are your system specs?

right well, my specs are...

AMD AthlonXP 2000+
760summin mb of ram
gainward gf4 ti-4200 128 golden sample

i think i may have solved the problem but not sure, ive reduced the temperature of the gpu and at the moment it seems stable, but only time will tell :\

generic windows drivers work fine, its only when i put proper drivers in, ones provided with card or ones from nvidia both cause it to happen.

and the problem has occoured in linux too, so i haveto wonder if the card is faulty or maybe it was just overheating.

Overheating is a good place to start your search. but just a suggest you may want to look into Nvidia drivers there old ones are good too. But your card is taking a big hit by using the Microsoft drivers. Just a suggest.
