Intigrating Microsoft Access' Databases to a Web Page

Okay, I am a business owner and I have many clients. I would like to make business easier by adding a database to my web site to have my clients search and find data on their specific item(s). The problem is I don't know how to have an open query on a Web Page that deals with Microsoft Access. Now, I can add a page to the Web containing my data, but it can't be queried ... it can only be viewed as a form basically. Plus the data is not secure, someone could change it if they want to.

Is there anyway to add a query to a web page that links to my database and keep the data secure?

Or ... maybe I can look into SQL Databases. But I don't know the first thing about SQL.

You will need to use a server side language (ASP or PHP) to access the database. It sounds like you are using MS Access's way of creating a webpage right now?

Yes, that's exactly right. But at the moment (still learning programming) I don't know how to use server-side languages just yet. How would I even go about that?

Hm, well I just tell my programmers - make it so & it happens. LOL, but might take a look at http://www.asp101.com, http://www.aspalliance.com/, and http://www.learnasp.com/learnasp/ to start learning. That is if you are on a Windows server - which I am assuming you?

The w3shools site is also a good resource they have good examples which tend to be more useful for me.

Well, I actually also have Microsoft Visual Basic. So I can make ASP.NET pages. The one problem is what you pointed out, I do not have any server software on my computer so I can't even begin to create a ASP.NET Page. And I don't have XP Professional so I don't have that built-in server software either.

lang, thanks for the link!

You should look for an ASP web hosting provider who is not too expensive. There's a wide variety of them out there. Once you find one, you can start experimenting with designing web pages with ASP .Net and Access databases.

I like MySQL for databases; it is very easy to use, can be made vary secure, but unfortunately lacks some functionality. It is very good for beginners such as myself to PHP.

You definitely need to learn a proper server-side language. I would not go with anything made by Microsoft, as they are the prime target for most hackers. Since you are already using Access, this may be the way to go, however.
