Power Calibration Error with Nero

I updated Nero to 6.6.0.8 yesterday. Now I receive "Power Calibration Errors" on burn of DVD's. Anyone else have the same problems? I recently switched to a new media, RIDATA 8X Hub Printable, I burned several DVD's before the update using this media and had no problems. I am using a Sony DW-U14A drive with Microsoft drivers. I can't find any firmware update for this OEM drive.

I was perplexed by this as well. A number of threads have been started re. this, one of which says you should disable the IMAPI service in XP. What I found by accident was that, when I inserted a cd to be copied, somehow or another it was turning off the IMAPI service. So after inserting the disk to be copied, I then open up services, go to the IMAPI service (which is set to automatic) and start it. Then I proceed with the copy process in Nero. I have not had problems since doing this.

BTW, I got these errors using a new NEC 3520A with Nero 6 and update 6.6.0.8 on a nforce2 400 ultra system. I have not had this problem with the Sony 710A on a via kt-600 system with Nero 6 and update 6.6.0.1. The original version of Nero 6 was an oem that came with the Sony 710A, and I used it on the NEC as well. On both systems, Nero is listed as "Sony version". Both of my systems have an amd 2600 mobile cpu, both have XP Home with SP2 with all updates, and the same avg virus protection and zone alarm firewall.

As a follow up to my original message. Nero's upgrade was not the problem, it was media/drive compatibility. Forty five out of fifty Ridata discs resulted in power calibration errors on burn. A switch to Verbatim 94854 8x media has produced excellent results with my Sony drive. I have not had a bad burn since switching to this media. I did flash my Sony drive from an OEM DW-U14A to the latest retail equivelent DRU510A. This flash made no difference with the Ridata media.
There are many factors involved when burning DVD-R but all things equal the most critical seems to be media compatibility. One has to wonder why decent firmware could not resolve this issue. Check with the drive manufacturer for compatibility before you purchase any media.

Re: Power Calibration Error with Nero

My DVD burner stopped working.
I have tried every advice from this and other forums, but "power calibration error" kept appearing.
I never believed the DVD quality crap - the cheap DVDs were okay during the previous year.
Then I took my vacuum-cleaner, opend the DVD burner (as to insert DVD - not any taking apart), attached the vacuum cleaner tube to the open DVD burner and kept it there for a minute or so.
It worked!
Now I am burning DVDs again!
Happy me.

Re: Power Calibration Error with Nero

Hey everyone,

I just got the same error! I don't think it's the media because I used to use generic media and never had this problem. Now that I ran out, I've tried using Staples brand dvd-r's and that's when the problem started. I then tried using a Fuji dvd-rw disc and that burned fine. Thinking that it was the Staples brand dvd-r's that were no good, I bought a spindle of Fuji dvd-r's (the brand that worked after my initial problem with the error) and guess what.... they dont work either! Same error message and everything. I'm going to try taking the advice listed on this forum and see if any of them work for me. If the IMAPI or the cleaning method doesn't work, what else should I try? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
