PST file bigger than 2.3GB

I have a problem with MSoutlook 2000, the .pst file has grown into more than 2.3GB and MSoutlook can not open.
I made a new pst file for MSoutlook and it works fine, but i need all the emails and data in the 2.3 GB pst file which i can not access(i have it saved on the desktop)
is there a way to make the 2.3 Gb pst file work again?
example: the MSoutlook now works with a new pst file, can i make the 2.3 GB pst file available if i want to get any emails from it?
any solution that can work will be much appreciated.
thanks

I know this is probably not the answer you were hoping for but I thought I'd suggest it anyway.

Have you considered using an email client like Mozilla's Thunderbird and perhaps try importing the .pst file?

Maybe Thunderbird is not such a good idea after all. If you tried this already let us know if there was a problem importing a file that big.

When I suggested an alternative, Thunderbird was just one example - maybe not the most ideal alternative since it will probably not import your calendar, tasks, journal data etc.

FYI, since setting up my new PC, I installed mostly open source software in it like OpenOffice for documents and Thunderbird for email. Still figuring it all out...
