Help with scripting

Hi,

I am new to all this, but a futile day leads me to ask the experts in here!

I am trying to use a simple form on our website to allow users to input details and submit, which then should come across as an email. I am using Miniportal (latest version) running on an XP box, Frontpage for the web authoring, and I have installed the asp and php modules into miniportal without issue.

I am using Forms2go to generate the forms, and I have tried perl, asp and php without success.

Firstly, using perl:

In frontpage, I have gone into form properties and selected Custom ISAPI, NSAPI CGI or ASP script. In the options box I have entered the name of my script; applypostal1.pl and method POST.

I have then put the script with the correct filename (applypostal1.pl) into the cgi-bin directory in the apache directory within the miniportal directories on the webserver.

When I submit the form I get the standard 'page not found' page; it cannot find the script. This happens even if I change the properties in frontpage to have either the full path, or just cgi-bin/applypostal1.pl. So, I copied the script into the main web directory (which is called USDOCS and resides in the apache directory) and then it did find it, but I got the Method not allowed error 405 post problem. I read somewhere that this can occur if you try and run a script from a directory that is not cgi-bin, however as I said when I put the script in cgi-bin it can't find it. I have tried editing the script itself such that the 'shebang' has the full path to perl, or just so that it says #!perl instead of the line that forms2go generated which I think was incorrect for my server. This has not helped.

Using PHP gives me an error on line 112 or something which makes even less sense which says there is nothing in the from field, but there is because I entered it into forms2go before generating the form, and asp also gives me the same problem as the cgi - it cannot find the script if I put it in the cgi-bin directory, or it says method not allowed if I put it in the main document directory. In fact, with PHP I have resolved the error on line 112 somehow but this now behaves in the same way as the others.

As my head is about to explode, I would be really grateful if someone could help me out!

Many thanks in advance,

Allowee has a spectacular aura about
I think you are using the wrong cgi-bin directory

is there a cgi-bin directory at the some place where you found the USDOCS dir?
You can do a search in the config file for 'cgi' and see if that helps

also, the php script gives an error because there is something wrong with the script, a typo or something
