Question

Problem w/ a GeForce2 MX400

I just bought a NVidia GeForce2 MX400 64mb to replace my 3dfx Voodoo3 3000 and now I dunno why most of my games and almost unplayable! For instance when I try to play Motocross Madness, the graphics are all messed up I can't see anything! :-(

I've tried to install the latest versions of OpenGL and DirectX and the drivers for my card. No changes. And if I must have an heatsink and/or fan, how am I supposed to install it? There're no holes where to put screws!

How exactly are they unplayable? You say the graphics are messed up, but how? Did you upgrade anything else at the same time?

You've upgrade the graphic portions of your system, and the drivers, but what about the games themselves? Do you have the latest patches?

well it has something to do with directx coz it runs perfectly if I use opengl. otherwise, the 3d rendering is crap.

btw sorry for the late post

Well, if you've upgraded DirectX and your video drivers, I'm not sure what else might be the problem. If you have the latest game patches, theoritically it should all be working fine. Do none of your DirectX games work?

As I recall, the GeForce 4 didn't require active cooling; I think it just had a large heatsink on the GPU. It's possible that it's getting hot inside your case. Since it doesn't have a fan on it, the only thing you can really do about heat is to add a case fan to ensure the heat inside doesn't get too high.

it's well aerated -_- it's just that direct3d doesnt works like it should. Like in half-life, many walls are invisible and it's clearly slower (not to make it unplayable though).

but when i use opengl as the 3d renderer it's perfectly perfect! hint me

What version of Windows are you using? Also, did you remove all of the old video drivers? There may be a conflict somewhere.

I noticed the other day on the Nvidia site that a certain version number of their driver is required for SP2. I know that you're running SP1 but have you checked that there isn't a certain version required for your system?

If you remove the Nvidia driver you upgraded to, how does the default Windows driver work? Or the default driver that came w/ the card?

Have you tried the version of DirectX required by your games, not the most recent version?

Do you have another card you can swap out w/? Maybe it's an issue w/ that particular card. Also, have you flashed your BIOS? Since you jumped through quite a few generations of video cards, perhaps your BIOS needs updated also.
