Invision VS PHPBB

Which board do you think is better and why? I'm thinking of changing my board and I'm looking at PHPBB and I was wounding what everyone thought.

I think phpBB has better facilities for the price (i.e. nothing!). But they're practically identical as far as I can see. I'm more familiar with the phpBB though.

phpBB also has many more patches and extras to customise it, and you won't get into (as much) trouble for editing the code behind it to better suit your needs.

But why are you changing? What do you want your new board to do?

I just thought I would try something new. I've been using Invision for a while but I also been looking at PHPBB for sometime now and I was just wounding what others thought about PHPBB. But there is no real reason I like Invision I just wanted to try something new.

In that case, don't let me stop you!

But can I ask you, what (if anything at all) would you like in a BB that you currently can't find. That one thing that no boards does quite well enough.

I for one had the idea that boards could pop up a little unintrusive message on screen saying that a thread you posted in has recieved a reply since. It could keep conversation running smoother (as I don't check my email every 5 mins) that the boards tell you there's been a reply.

Also who misses fully threaded posts, like on the good old Phorum?

PCX, since your community is new... I think it's actually quite wise for you to 'try out' the various boards that are out there.

phpBB or Invision Board? Both are equally good for what they were designed to do. There are a few smaller, lesser known and interesting boards out there too.

I can't remember them all right now but if you ask Conkermaniac, he will be able to send you to some interesting lists, resources on them or directly to the websites. Message boards are his passion, or they were at one point...

Always try to 'import' your existing data - cause I would hate to keep re-registering at your board

That one of my main worry. and not to worry I'm going to back up the database and download it to my local PC that way if something happens I have the backup. But I'll keep you up to date on whats going on. Thanks

what happens? What's the error message? Is your cookie setting for the right domain? Have you cleared old cookies that may have been planted on your browser from a previous install?

I'll try clearing the cookies from my browser. but I'm not sure the board works fine until I try and get to the admin panel then I get that error take a look here at the bottom of the page you'll see a link the the admin panel click it you should get an error tell you that your not an admin but i'll get the page can't be displayed error. I'm going to contact my web host because I have a server that I run at home and the board run great on it but not on maxipoint so I'm going to talk with them and maybe they'll know something.
