Realtime Tracking Vs Server Side Stats

I'm looking for a solution to track my website visitors. Is any one of you using real-time traffic tracking service? Or you use server-side website traffic statistics tracking. Which is better one ? Which would you prefer to use? Thank you for your suggestions.

I never figured out (how to analyse) Awstats or that other thingy (Webalizer) that's so popular...

I use PHLOGGER, a GPL php script that does a pretty decent job and one that I have been using for quite a while already.

Thank you JdS for your suggestion. I already have some other suggestions on PHLOGGER. On the way to try it.

I am pretty impressed with Awstats...especially for a free package. Its not quite Urchin but IMHO, puts Webalizer to shame.

Re: Realtime Tracking Vs Server Side Stats

Actually, I think that just gathering basic visitor statistics is pretty useless. They don't give enough of the right kind of information. Primarily how much things have changed since you last looked - with percentages.

You don't say what your site is doing, but if you are selling something, it is important to know how your visitors find your site, what products are most popular and which are most profitable, how your ads are performing and which keywords are being used from which SEs. Things like that.

I like real time reporting myself. I looked at a lot of them before I decided to use one. http://www.webstatsgold.com is the one I use now.

Re: Realtime Tracking Vs Server Side Stats

I actually have both (I think). My host gives me Webalizer stats for free, but I also use Statcounter. The Webalizer is detailed, probably more than I need. There's a lot more information than I can do anything with. That's why I keep Statcounter on my site. It gives me a "quick & dirty" idea of who's visiting, what they're looking at, and other useful items. Between the two, I prefer Statcounter for day-to-day use and Webalizer for aggregation.
