MivaScript

Hi,

Could you tell me if the MivaScript engine is free for download? From the official website (http://www.miva.com), I have found that a software (that appears to be for installation on a server) called Miva Empresa is free. However, many other people tell me that to get a copy of the MivaScript engine, I will have to pay. So in short, I'm totally confused.

I have asked at other forums, but I have not gotten many responses. If anyone can help me tackle this issue, I would be grateful. Thanks!

Quite honestly, this is the first time I am hearing about it, no.. wait.. wasn't there a Miva Shopping thingy?

Anyway, I glanced through their site and I imagine by 'engine', you were talking about the Miva Script Compiler? Man... that costs like $695!

That would get you Apache, MySQL, PHP, web hosting, a domain name and probably a new computer too (in some parts of the world)

BUT, I am curious now... what are you up to these days that requires Miva script?

Hi JdS,

I think the MivaScript Compiler is only a development tool. Could you read the description of Miva Empresa, and tell me if that's what I need?

I only wanted to work with Miva because I am interested in learning a tag-based scripting language. I already know VBScript and PHP. Actually, I'm already pretty familiar with PHP/MySQL, as I am working on coding a guestbook with someone, but I guess I just want to try something new.

Oh, and yes, there was a shopping thingie. It's called Miva Merchant.

Unless I misunderstood what I read on thier site, it's just the thing you need to run MivaScripts (or applications already written in that language) on your web server.

To programme or write these 'Mivascripts' yourself, you must be needing the compiler or what?

Hi JdS,

MivaScript is just like PHP - it's a server-side scripting language - so you won't need a compiler in order to code scripts. You could always use Notepad.

At least that's what I have gathered.

FWIW, I have seen this script included in some CPanel and Ensim hosting packages.

MivaScript isn't a script - it's a scripting language. If you mean Miva Merchant, a script coded in MivaScript that allows you to create an online store, you may be right. I have heard that it comes with Ensim. But you do haev to be careful there...even though they seem to "offer" Miva Merchant, you will still need to purchase a hefty license fee from the official website.
