School Book Prices

Wow... I just went up to WTCC (my school) this morning and purchased my books for next semester's classes... ... ...
How in the world can books alone for 5 classes cost $300+ ?!?!?!
Anyway, I was just wondering if there is anybody else here who is or has experienced this insane trap? I know that you can purchase books online much cheaper than at bookstores, I just wanted to save some of the hassle of shipping and all that good stuff...

So what do you think GIDForums folks?

My school (Grantham University) includes the cost of books in the tuition, plus any software et al. Each semester is ~$3200. My sister-in-law just bought a book that cost her $150, for a single book. I found it online (afterward) ranging in price from $99 to $215, so it's not guaranteed to be cheaper.

I'd recommend Barnes & Noble, Alibris, or Amazon. Many years ago I found a few "discount text books" sites but never fully investigated them. You can try your luck though.

Wow... That's tough... I thank God that I can get student loans, because without that, I would never be able to afford college.

I hear you. When I was in college, I could work for a summer and have enough to go to the next two semesters (with help for room and board). Today you have to have a full time well paying job just to afford the tuition for a year!

Its not all that bad where I'm at. Attending a Community College. Its expensive for me, but I wouldn't be one of those to pay $30000 /yr to go to Duke or some fancy place like that. I think my tuition every semester is about $650 and books are about $310. So for a year, (assuming you don't take classes but two semesters out of the year), it comes up to be about $2000 /yr. Not counting room and board. But I still live with my parents, so room and board is FREE!!!
