Well, the old thread dead-ended with no helpful information.

Sometimes when people start a new thread they are told to search the board for old threads. Since the new poster apparently did this, what should the new poster have been told? Start a new thread? Or what?

Guidelines rule number 6 says "6: Do not start new threads on the same topic." It isn't clear, to some people, whether this refers to stale threads or only to recent threads. (Apparently this homework question is repeated from term to term, or, maybe, instructors search old gidforums threads for good assignments for each term.)

(This is not a completely rhetorical question; perhaps a moderator can give recommendations about board policy.)

Regards,

Dave

p.s. My aim is to give people useful information rather than carping on details. I want them to feel welcome so that they will come back. Every time someone new posts a question it is a new opportunity for everyone to learn something (not just the Poster).

I didn't mean to chase anyone away. Everyone has a right to his/her own opinion (including you and including me), and I didn't intend my remarks to be derogatory.

Dave
