Can you change the background colors in a console app?

Hello everyone!

Pretty new to C++. I am taking a class and we have to write a console application that mimics a craps game. My team has the dice figured out (drawn out with ASCII characters), what we are looking for is a way to possibly change the entire background of the screen to green. Is there a way to do this easily?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome to GID, swash

That would depend on the operating system you're using as well as the compiler. They all have their own way to do it.

It will be running on a windows XP system with MS C++ from the Visual Studio.Net 2003 package.

I'm not familiar with the 2003 compiler, but back in the 'old' days M$ had text-based functions. They had names something like setbackgroundcolor(), settextcolor() and others like that. Check the documentation to see if they are still alive. If not, do a search on http://msdn.com for the latest in M$ propaganda... er documentation.
