Too much convergence?I was in Fry's Electronics today and saw a TV-Fridge.
First off, why would I have any desire to sit in an uncomfortable chair, in my kitchen, to watch TV? Even if I'm cooking, odds are I can take 3 steps and watch a TV a few feet away. And don't tell me that it's good for following along w/ a cooking show. How often does that happen? Most people watch a show and either tape it, take notes, or go to the web site. Secondly, with the "big crisis" of fat people in America, why have an extra incentive to eat? Might as well put in a 3-way mirror so I can watch my butt get bigger too. This is nearly as stupid as MS, Intel, et al. ideas of Internet-enabled appliances. If I'm too dumb to buy more eggs or notice the milk is expired, then I might as well just give up eating. Having a clothes washer that automatically "calls" a repair center when there's a problem is stupid; all I want to know is that there's a problem, and maybe what it is. Then I can make the choice to fix it myself or call someone. Don't make my decision for me. Finally, just how many TVs do people need? I mean, there's nothing really on TV worth watching, so unless the fridge comes w/ a built-in DVD player or hookups for a PS2, it's pretty much worthless. Mobile phone companies are trying to put TV tuners in cell phones too. Why would I want to watch boring shows on a 3" screen? How often am I able to sit for 1/2 hour or more to watch a complete episode? How much will it kill my battery? What happened to reading a book? ![]() __________________
