infra red web surfing

hi there
i am after some information on how to connect my mobile phone via infra red to my laptop. i am attempting to go online on my laptop through my phone. both my laptop and phone manuals say this is possible but dont explain how to set it up.

i am using an acer laptop running windows xp, and my phone is an SPV E200. i have tried every different way posible but have had no success.

my phone is fully http compatible, and uses gprs to surf the web....

can anyone offer any ideas/solutions please

cheers

I'll ask the obvious question: do both machines have an IR port or is it something you have to attach seperately?

Another obvious question: do either of the companies web sites have info? How about the manuals?

Having never had to try this, much less dealt w/ IR connections, I can't offer much more help. Sorry :-(

each manual says the same old thing, phone manual says connect it via infra red then consult computer manual, and pc manual says the opposite - connect viz infra red then consult phone manual. to be honest people that write manuals probably dont actually know how it connects via infra red - only the technicicnas that designed it no that, grr, frustrating

no, it doesnt say it cant hear a dialtone - i dont no the first thing to do to even get that far!? i have no idea how to surf th web using my mobile as the modem - but i know it it possible with th kit i have. using infra red, just no one seems to know how it is possible. also both manuals instruct me to refer to the other manual, ie phone manual says lok in th laptop manual and vice versa!

this worked for me.

go to install a new modem and when it asks what type of modem you have there should be a file on the cd with the software on. select the cd drive. and it should find the file. or you could look for the file first so you then know where to find it. the manuals only seam to tell you that they have that capability and how to turn it on p.

hope this helps
