Help a beginner with apache pls...Ive just setup apache on port 80, and created a user authentication in the config file. The problem is, whenever my apache service is on and i go to my yahoo mail or some other websites, the user authentication keeps popping up asking for my username and password. I dont know what causes this, when i check the access.log i can find
127.0.0.1 - - [27/Nov/2004:01:24:01 +0800] "GET /us.yimg.com/a/fi/financial_aid_com/25x25_logo_041304.gif HTTP/1.1" 401 480 127.0.0.1 - - [27/Nov/2004:01:24:01 +0800] "GET /us.yimg.com/a/ya/yahoo_personals2/111204_ypflirt_mm_300x100.jpg HTTP/1.1" 401 480 what does apache have to do with yahoo and some other sites? Why does the authentication keeps popping out? Help pls... |

I think this is related to your HOSTS file.
you should be able to find it: c:\Windows\HOSTS or c:\Windows\System32\HOSTS if those don't work just let Windows search for the file hosts, asuming you use Windows. (for linux the file is /etc/hosts) if it contains lines with the yahoo.com just delete those lines and it should work fine again. If not you should look if you have any proxy settings and maybe even try if another browser does the same |

Thank you very much! i would have never thought its the host file. I was wondering if there is another workaround for this since my host file contains my blocked ads and redirect them to 127.0.0.1 so it wont show up, I could remove them but then ads will pop up again, is there any other way so that the pop up authentication wont show up besides removing the urls in the host file?
