How do I create JavaScript Links?

I hope someone here can tell me how I can create JavaScript links. What I am attempting to do is to create links that Search Engine spiders cannot follow.

I suppose something like:
HTML Code:
<script language="javascript"> <!-- document.write("<a href=\"www.desilva"); document.write(".biz/thepage.html\">Link to the page</a>"); //--> </script>
might do it. But I'm sure there's better ways.

It would not be very good for people using browsers such as Lynx or W3M which don't support JS

Yes, I realise what the limitations are Andrew but I have no choice. Otherwise this board will be full of spammers link dropping at every opportunity (since searchbots go through each thread here).

I don't know if you want to go through all the hassle of this or if it is possible, but if you are worried about people not being able to see things on Lynx or W3M would it be possible to carbon copy the pages elsewhere not in the javascript form. Then to stop the spammers, you could have the robot text file prevent it being searched.

I think nowadays, being worried about supporting browsers like Lynx and W3M is just far too much trouble, and considering the proportion of people that use them today, it's not worth bothering.

Especially when you try & use them, http://www.maths.tcd.ie/~gboland/gid/farnell.gif here is what your's looks like with Lynx, now tell me would you prefer this to IE?

JavaScript comes with every browser practically out there, and the average websurfer wouldn't bother to turn it off. The only persons I sympathise for are those partially sighted and blind people, whose screen-readers will probably balk at JavaScripting.

It's a lot of work to keep everybody happy, and is it worth it? I think if the majority are satisfied, then you've done a good job.

Its not as if it is a comparison between the Lynx and IE but feeding the masses. At the end of the day think of it as designing the world for yourself in 50 years. It is actually tables that **** up the readability of a page that's why I tried to go for CSS as much as possible as I came in to this webmaster business at a fairly transitional stage. Try http://bobby.watchfire.com on your site and see how it fairs. Its tricky stuff this accessibility lark.
