I've discovered an interesting message board system called Ikonboard http://www.ikonboard.com

Its a perl application which creates its own database without using mySQL.

I've set one up at http://www.nickbeee.f2s.com/ for evaluation...just follow the link from there, f2s permitting

BTW I have found that the MySQL on F2S is extremely slow, I am trying to load your board now and my board loads much, much faster.

I tried to take a look but the pg just wouldn't load...

Mine's there, honest!
I did have similar probs last night thanks to f2s...
Its configured to not use mysql and the email uses smtp, I couldn't get sendmail to work.

Wonder why sendmail doesn't work, all of my f2s sites are on server0045 and yours is on 46, I wonder if thats it.

In fact, I just checked ikonboard.com and they just released iB v.3 RC1 so this weekend I will upgrade.

I've now installed that latest Ikonboard v3.1.1 at http://www.nowindows.net/
(click on forum link).
The performance with my host using a MySQL database seems quite impressive. (Its not compulsory to use MySQL, it wil support postgresql and other db formats)

If you want it, get it from http://www.ikonboard.com but be warned its a big download, over 5 megs, much bigger than the old v2 and when its installed on your server it will take up double this in disk space

Apparently a php release is iminent, but I was impatient and went for the cgi one!

If you're looking for a fast and efficient board that looks very similar to Ikonboard (except coded in PHP/MySQL, which makes it far less resources), try http://www.invisionboard.com/. Ikonboard is primarily known for being a resource hog, so I definitely wouldn't recommend it.

Thanks for the tip, it looks interesting.

For now I will stick with IB3, I will install the php version when its is released as I'm currently using the MySQL database option.
I think V3 is a vast improvement, from what I can gather V2 had problems with losing messages and other stuff.
I'll let my admin stats speak for themselves
