Have you tried the cd maker's web site for xp drivers? Many devices required new drivers when xp came out due to the OS changes. Granted xp should handle it, but it doesn't hurt to check.

I have a Sony CDRW that worked in 98 but won't burn under XP; since I have a Yamaha that works, I never bothered fixing it.

If it's an intern drive then windows should detect it and use it. Windows XP has that burning software preinstalled in windows or at least it does on PRO you may need to install it from the XP disk. But on my system you can just drag and drop anything you want and then burned it. Just open my computer click on the CD icon and open it, then just drop want you want into the window. Like I said not sure this would work with XP Home or if it just a XP Pro thing.

Does it tell you what the conflict is? You might be able to either change the settings on the CD or the other device, or disable the other and see if that allows the CD to run. You might also try removing it under Hardware Devices, then run the "detect new hardware" wizard to redetect it (I used to have to do that w/ modems under 95).

You also might try changing the connection for the CD, either on your ribbon cable or the EIDE connector on the motherboard. Could just be flaky.
