i have a VIA mainbord. i have win98 on it. problem is that when i change system date, i receive a critical error msg on blue screen ...
2nd problem is that i cant see cd rom icon in my computer but it work when i boot from it. i also show my cd rom device in device meneger.
kindly help me i have tired to solve these problems

did you try to do win update from the internet?
Cause if its deteted in the bios and in device manager then could be a corrupted windows file

When was the last time you put a clean version of 98 on it? Windows has a tendency to lose things over time as data gets moved around. The general rule of thumb is to do a reformat and reinstall at least annually (though it doesn't apply nearly as much w/ XP). You can try reinstalling 98 over itself, but I haven't had the best of luck w/ that.

It's not the nicest fix, but it nearly always fixes problems.
