The google browser or OSrumors are spreading fast about google being up to something and no-one knows exactly what it is. Are they making a browser? Ive also heard the rumor of a new OS to compete with Windows? what are your thoughts? I beleave they are capable, but when?

I don't think they'd go as far as an OS - they'd be really deviating from their core competency.
I can see a GBrowser down the line....and IMO it Google can figure out a way to show contexual ads in it, it could put a lot of Adsense publisher's out of business. |

Its probably going to be a browser.
they have hired a lot of people in that field lately. an os is to big a project for google & much harder to promote. a browser however is much easier. |

true an OS is to much, and hard to advertise, but hell i would switch if they made one. It would be a pretty interesting experience, but thats just me.

This is interesting news about Google for sure. Even the domain name is already registered! http://www.whois.sc/gbrowser.com
When I first read about it - like Div, I felt the same chill run down my spine. I can't think of any other reason for Google to research and develop a browser if not to maximise their revenue from their own Contextual Advertising. When Opera made that first move a while back, I knew it was setting a dangerous precedent. Now I can only hope that Google remains true to it's beliefs and will not turn this into something evil. I hope they will disable any contextual ads on their browser when it's being used to view a web page with AdSense already on it. __________________

If it is a browser, does this mean MS will make a browser of their own?
Seriously, IE is getting beat up by everyone now. Maybe they'll lock it down even more by making MSN its exclusive search engine, once it's "perfected". At a minimum, and even though I don't use IE, I hope it will push MS to release an update to IE. It's amazing that people consider it viable when the last true update was 3 years ago. __________________

To be honest, I predict that Microsoft has really, REALLY big plans for when they finally launch their search engine.
They will get into the whole contextual advertising (much like AdWords/AdSense) business in a big way and they will (definitely) have the browser that will go with it too. Whether small time publishers like some of us will get a service like AdSense or whether they will go the route of Overture (limiting their ads to big portals and such only) remains to be seen. If I were a betting man, I think they would promote it a lot like how Google does AdSense. If I am right, it will be truly something... __________________

It is my guess that the Google staff is currently working towards some sort of browser which would integrate itself into windows, in a similar fasion to Intenet Explorer(but not as severely integrated as that). If you look what Google labs has been pushing out lately... google toolbar, desktop search, gmail, blogger, etc, combine that with the support that google has given to mozilla(Their own special search page, hosting Mozilla Developer day at the Google Facilities), There is a good possibility that a browser is in the works. My prediction is that this integrated browser would serve as a cross platform "wrapper" OS, much like putting a new skin on winamp. Many things would stay the same in your OS, but many features would be added. Like possibly integrated email, messaging(google+jabber = goober :-) ), and desktop search, to name a few, all wrapped up with a great (Mozilla based) web browser. Google is on a fascinating path paved with innovation, lets hope that they don't stray from this path and end up forgetting their users. Well, for the time being, I think google is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and have no reason to not look forward to what they have in store for the future.
