How to find info on a deleted domainI wonder does anyone know how to find info on a deleted domain.
ie: rank, traffic, previous use or topic of the site. This would be handy when buying a previously used domain name. I bought a domain for my brother and by sheer luck when he set it up he found that it already had a google rank of 5. I have bought 13 domains for myself all with a rank of 0. This seems like a good topic for research. It takes a lot of effort to get a site noticed these days and to get 5 points on your rank is not easy. A deleted domain with any rank at all would give a good leg up to a new site even if the traffic was not great. Any info would be good, either www or even a decent book. I get a bug up my a** every few months and do a bit but then I forget it all again, I would prefer to have your suggestions on sites that you think offer good tutorials for my favourites list. junk ked |

Good question but unfortunately one I cannot answer. I am sure there are ways to do this and if you ever happen to figure it all out, please let me know too (if that's alright with you).

If you want to know what a domain looked like in the past, check http://www.archive.org
Re: old pagerank - Google has gotten pretty good in nuking old backlinks and rankings when a domain hits the deletion period. |

You may be able to guestimate PR by checking out how many backlinks the domain name has before you buy it. You can go here to get some info on the backlinks: http://www.linkpopularitycheck.com
While you are at it, it would be worthwhile to check the anchor text of those backlinks to see if they are using the same keywords that you will be using for your new site. If the keywords in the anchor text are the same, you're in luck; if not, the search engines may be confused as to the subject of your website which may affect your rankings in the SE's. What I found out about MagikbusQuote:
Thanks for the tip. Here is what I found out. The site was started in 1999 as a travel operator or tour guide. Then they had problem with conflicting business names( think they got sued) They put up forwarding page to new name. Site becomes a search engine (paid inks only) I buy name and offer it for sale on page. 2003( brother wants a website) I put up happy birthday to my brother here is your domain. Brother does couple of pages. no changes till now. 2004 All the back links date from 1999, various travel guides that obviously do not prune bad material. Some of the links are university travel guides. The page currently has a rank of 4. Zero traffic. Not bot friendly. Does any body know how to find past page rank or changes in rank? Very interested in this topic Junkked. |

You can't really find out past pagerank and more importantly how the site ranked in the search engines because SEs have changed a lot in the last few years and the content is very different.
