This theory was first posted on WebmasterWorld about a year ago...I believe at the time of the Florida update. I am not a database expert nor do I have insider info from Google to know what Google to do to alleviate this problem (if this problem exists as described), but I can say that Google is definitely adding new pages. Now is it also deleting a lot of pages? I am sure it is, but I'd wager that the net result is still 'positive'.

I thought I went back in time too! When I read the message in this thread for the first time yesterday, I was thinking to myself, "Wasn't this discussed a while back already?".
Everyday, new threads here on GIDForums™ make it to the Google index. Everyday, google refers readers to some really old web pages off www.desilva.biz (some of these pages are maybe over 3 years old). So, it's not really obvious that they're dumping older pages for new, if that is what they're (Google) doing. Maybe somewhere in this whole "idea", lies the reason for "supplemental results" inside certain Google SERPs. __________________

google deleting pages!I don't think so.
I have been paying attention to googlebot for the last six months, in an attempt to understand why site rankings seem to fluctuate up and down by as much as 2 points even though the page content is static. I mentioned before that I had a site on geocities with a rank of 5, I bought this domain name for my brother for his birthday last year and he has done nothing with it for at least 9 months. It is a very badly laid out site and has in herited the name and some very old traffic links. www.magikbus.com The rankings for these pages vary between 2-5 with absoluteley no work being done on these pages! From month to month google indexes DIFFERENT pages on the same site. It enters and leaves on different pages as well. This must be why it APPEARS that pages are being deleted from the google database. I would like to hear your thoughts on this. I could be wrong. Junk ked. The world is flat. I know because i am standing on it! |

I am not sure what you are trying to say here. I don't think Google is necessarily "regular" in its spidering habits, but that does not mean its deleting pages. Your page content may be static, but you have to realize that there may be hundreds or thousands of sites that are continually changing and Google is continually evaluating their changes versus the rest. The other question would be what keywords are you using for your evaluation? How competitive are these keywords? |

I am saying it APPEARS to delete pages.Quote:
I have WEBALIZER on one of my sites and it shows that googlebot searches are numbered sequentially eg 129 , 130 ,131. On each search different pages on a site are indexed each time NOT the same pages over and over again.( I only submit one sitemap page to google) As for my brothers pages on Magikbus, I am not talking about keywords at as such but rather a simple search for Magikbus dot com on google. From month to month pages listed on google change, the index page is always listed but deeper pages on the site are replaced by other pages. The site is still listed but some pages will disappear for a month. It may appear, to some people, that sites are being deleted but in reality only SINGLE PAGES are dropped. I do have a question of my own. I only submit the sitemap page once, google indexes the pages but does not index the sitemap page that was submitted! any ideas? junk ked |

I beleive this is not true. They may have had a problem in the past, but want to have the biggest database of content on the Web and they also have lots of money to manage that. So if they do have this sort of issue where they can't add anymore sites because the design of the database/site then they have got money to spend to fix the problem.

How do you know that the sitemap is not indexed by Google? Without a domain name to refer to, it's hard to say. What about the robots meta tag (and "noindex" value) on the sitemap web page, is there such a tag? __________________

Site map not indexed by google!Quote:
Hi JdS, Webalizer tracks the entry and exit page of googlebot just as if it were a human user. So far it has not visited the sitemap. The only metatags I have on this page are keywords and description. I have been wondering if google thinks that my sitemap is a doorway page because of lack of content? I did read some tutorials that said doorway pages are bad for your rankings and good search engines ignore suspicious pages. Junk ked |
