topsites appearing on all the important search engines bar altavista

Hi I did a search on SEpopular for topsites.gidhelp.com and these were the results:
Alexa =18
All the web = 132
Altavista = 0
Google = 74
Hotbot = 23
Lycos = 118
MSN = 20

However it will probably appear on Altavista anyway because of Zeal and therefore looksmart. I still think that is pretty good though.

Actually, it was one of the FIRST search engines (AltaVista) I submitted the new pages to, back in August 2002.

The only four pages I submitted - cause it was ALL I had put up, then

I never had to submit more than once with www.desilva.biz so I thought when AltaVista is ready, it will spider the rest of the site, when it's good and ready...

Elmseeker is on a distinguished road
Actually I think Alta-Vista only spiders sites on request. I'm not sure though if they still do it that way but I know they USED to.

On request? I doubt it very much but I'll have a look at the FAQs again, I could have sworn they mentioned that they would spider a whole site if THEY think it's important...

Sorry I'm going to have to be more clear with this, I did a search on link popularity.
Totally mad this but I then did a search for www.desilva.biz and here are the results (note look at altavista)
Alexa = 20
All the web = 0
Altavista = 252
Google = 2
Hotbot = 36
Lycos = 94
MSN = 24
Yahoo = 0

topsites.gidhelp had 0 for yahoo too.

I tried to request altavista to spider my site 4-5 weeks back but no sign.

You certain these results are for www.desilva.biz ? Just looking at the Google results I know that this info is outdated by atleast a month!

How and where do you do this link popularity thingy?

BTW, this is what I mean, with AV, it happens gradually. You just have to be patient and concentrate on building your pages and content.

I just submitted the 5 main pages (desilva.biz) and then NOTHING for months... but then they started to pour in when AV decided to deep crawl the site all of a sudden.

You can get the SEpopular from here: just add the www to the beginning.

I don't get it, do I have to download it or something?

If I do, I'd rather not, Google hates tools like these and you risk getting your site banned doing stuff like this...

but anyone can do a search on any site as many times as they want. Are you saying that microsoft cnn and google themselves etc are going to get banned because people keep searching on them? All it does is quickly check the engine for links to your site I think. Its not like I'm trying to cheat or anything by using it just for reference and saving having to manually search each search engine.

You present a very valid point, one I have asked myself on many occassions too. Besides I only know what others have told me in this respect.

Since Google is my life-line when it comes to traffic, I only needed to read this (and I never want to risk finding out the consequences):

Quote:
from http://www.google.com/terms_of_service.html
No Automated Querying
You may not send automated queries of any sort to Google's system without express permission in advance from Google. Note that "sending automated queries" includes, among other things:

using any software which sends queries to Google to determine how a website or webpage "ranks" on Google for various queries;
"meta-searching" Google; and
performing "offline" searches on Google.

Please do not write to Google to request permission to "meta-search" Google for a research project, as such requests will not be granted.

Take it to mean anything you like, but I wouldn't do it myself, no.
