Sound card driver setup

Hi

I have a Audigy LS sound card installed which was working fine. I then installed a Nvidia graphics card and the sound stopped working.

I uninstalled the sound card software and drivers and reinstalled. But it does not seem to install the drivers for my "pci" card and "multimedia audio contrroller".

In sounds and multimedia under the control panel i have the preffered devices greyed out. So the drivers are not installed even though the Audigy LS drivers are installed.

Any ideas pse ?

Get the latest drivers from Creative (if you don't already) and the latest from Nvidia. Check both sites for known hardware issues between the cards.

When you reboot or use the Detect Hardware icon in control panel, does Windows find the sound card? If so, does it let you install the drivers or does it do it for you? If it doesn't, you might try moving the card to a different slot; sometimes Windows has conflicts w/ cards being in certain slots for some reason.

Irq

I notice that my sound card, graphics card and NIC all use the same IRQ. I wonder if that could be the problem. Even though device manager shows no conflicts.

Theoretically, Windows should allow multiple devices to share IRQs and other system resources. In the old days (Win98 and earlier) you could only share 2 devices (at most if I remember correctly), and it was usually things that didn't have to talk at the same time, e.g. a sound card and mouse.

Having 3 devices sharing resources, and all of them xferring data at the same time, can cause issues. It does depend on the version of Windows you have though. You might consider changing some of the settings and seeing what happens.
