City Building Games

I am a huge fan of the city building game series which has mostly been generated by Impression Games. These games include Zeus, Caeser, Emperor: RTMK, etc.

I don't know why these games attract me more than others. Maybe it is the slow methodical building process or my unquenchable desire to command and rule all those around me. But I become very addicted to these games whenever they come out. Luckily (or unluckily) it is not the most popular genre and so there aren't alot of titles.

To add to this, Impression Games has recently gone under. In my search for something new, I stumbled across Tilted Mill Entertainment. This is a new company that is comprised of alot of the people that have brought to light all of these city building games. Their website is: http://www.tiltedmill.com.

Their first game is called Children of the Nile and is due in November. I am excited about this game and the "upgrades" that I think it will bring to this genre.

Anybody else a fan of the city building series? If so, do you like the direction that tilted mill is trying to take this genre?

I'd be curious to hear anyones opinions....

SimCity and Civilization are two of my all-time favourite games (up there with War Craft II and Red Alert).

I like civilization quite a bit, but I have always struggled with simcity. I have tried it several times, but I quickly grow tired of it.

Red alert kept me entertained though...

I have been playing Civilization since it first hit the shelves I have to say that I still play the first one a lot. Really is one of my favorite games. I'm really looking forward to Sid's new game Pirates.

Oh, no. Just when I get the CivIII monkey off my back and now this. I must unremember all I just saw. I really looks like a beautiful game. Perhaps it's gameplay will have a vaguely sim-ish overlay to the civilization feel that you are never dealing with small groups. To me SimCity always had the feel that if you don't move quick you will get run over by a bus. Civilization feels like you are on a track that keeps moving foreword foot by foot whether you want it to or not. It sounds like they are shooting somewhere in the middle of that. It really is an enjoyable genre. Not my favorite but a close second. Just have to settle for the gallery pictures until November.

Hmmm....by virtue of being a latecommer it is almost November.

hehe. good point. I was actually a beta tester for this (it is just barely wrapping up). I can't say too much about the game right now, except to say that this thing is on schedule. And maybe to say that the screen shots definitely do this thing justice

Totally unrelated, I just noticed that you are from PA. What part do you hail from? I was just in Western PA a month ago...

I was born and raised just about a half hour from Buffalo NY. Now I hang my hat in Eastern PA. I think it is about an hour, hour and a half southwest of Scranton. Nice area, just got an apartment and my other half can work in Philadelphia. Very country out by me! Hope you enjoyed the area. You on the other hand are coming up on ski season. I am very jealous.
