Question

Gmail

I received Gmail from a friend a while back, but haven't had chance to use it regularly. When do you receive the oppurtunity to give invites? Is it a time length sort of thing or is it a usage level trigger?

Cheers
Rob

Not sure - I think they both count. I received my mail account a couple of months ago, and I received my first give-away invite a week ago. Now I received 6 more! (all at once)
I have 4 left because I gave the others away to some of my friends.
However, I used this account extensivelly - I turned it into my primarly account, along with my job email.

They actuallly give away this free invites to groups of people - I think they categorize us into this groups depending on our activity - one of my friends received the same number of invites when I did. It's just like on GID Forums: Members Level 1, Level 2....

I think if you use it frequently, you will get some invites too. It's worth it, I really love the new features it brings!

Regards,
Luci

Man, I must be either lucky or there must be something else with how they (Gmail) give away gmail invites. I got my first invite less than 24 hours of getting my gmail account from Allowee.

I gave my first one to my GF (of course, otherwise I wouldn't be posting this right now I can assure you), then the invites just kept coming in daily... Then I started giving them out to family and offline friends and I got even more invites!

I don't use the account for much else except to give these invites away

Eventually, when I ran out of people to give it out to I started mailing out invites to GIDForums TEAM members and members from LEVEL 3 - 5. Just when I had 3 invites left to giveway today - I get even more

You mean "Do you have a nephew working for google?". I am too old to have an uncle working at Google.

I wish I had someone inside the Googleplex! That will be something...

I just looked at my first invite (to be sure) and I realised that it wasn't 24 hours after my account was activated after all - it just seemed like that because I wasn't really using it for the first 5-6 days after I got mine. I registered on the 18 and my first Invitation was on the 25, one day after a flurry of silly email communications with my GF - so that may have triggered something as you suggested!

Sorry, I keep thinking all people on the Internet are my age
When I received the notification e-mail from GID Forums, I saw I have an interesting option:

Invite GIDForums to Gmail

Now that would be something!!

Had you invited GIDForums, I would have received the invitation - nothing spectacular about that!

Getting back on-topic - I REALLY like Gmail. It's done very well, simple, fast and easy to get hooked on to. The tables have definitely turned for Microsoft (hotmail) and all those other free webmail services. It must be embarrasing for them, especially Microsoft for not innovating for the simple folk.

Yup. If interested, there is also (well, you probably know about it) another site that offers features comparable to gmail (including the 1 GB quota!) - spymac.
I like gmail better
