shopping cart softwareWe are going to open a new online store and trying to choose shopping cart software for this store.
Our requirements: We need something like x-cart oscommerce, but with more possibilities. Store.yahoo.com is not too good for us. We need advanced statistics system, full store design-templates control. This should be a living system with permanent new releases and patches. Technical support is obligatory. Can anyone advice a good and reliable system for us? |

What kind of statistics are you looking for? Are you wanting PHP or ASP?
Yahoo is OK - but they nickel & dime you to death. Also check out your competitors before signing up (if you do decide on them) and see how much it costs you to be listed in their shopping directory |

We have been using Yahoo platform for a long time this is why we would like to find some alternative to it. We’d prefer php, but asp is also a good choice. |

Well for PHP, you might check out osCommerce, Zen Cart or X-cart.
For ASP, (which I am partial to), we also refer some clients over to http://www.spidersales.com - they are very good about working with you & your needs. Hosting it on your own website usually is a bit better in the long run, gives you more control. |

osCommerce has a slew of free modules and very busy support forums so I recommend them if your going with PHP and something free/cheap.

SunCart and Zen-Cart are the ones I thought were best. SunCart has great administration pages.
As far as advanced stats, I'll have to check if either of them offer much. A friend and I are going to be writing our own cart this month, but won't be releasing anything to the public for quite awhile. From our combined research, those two stood out as the best, but I don't like the way *any* of them was coded... and even though Zen-Cart is supposed to be the easiest to modify, the template files are still numerous. You end up having to make changes in 5 or more files to get one design modification done. That's not the kind of template based code that I like to write. |
