Ram help


Alight heres the problem i have...I have a 256mb unb pc2100 DDR ram right now. but on my computer it says i only have 224 so i decided i should add more. I think it has a 184 pin because it is a pc2100 DDR am i right? and wen i add a new ram will it add it up? say i add another 256 will it say i ahve 480? since i have 224 n 256? can anyboday help me??

Check your bios settings... some of that RAM might be being used there for video or shadow ram. I would check there first, before trying to get more memory to fix the problem.

Do you have a brand name or custom system? Certain brand name computers (Compaq for example) use onboard chips that share your RAM for video and other functions. As JasonMichael suggested, your memory could be used for something else.

Exactly where does it tell you how much memory you have? On boot or in Windows? Boot should tell you exactly how much RAM is found by the system; Windows usually tells you how much is available while in Windows. Some TSR programs (like task bar icons) will suck up memory in the background. You can try a program like Cacheman to help w/ memory management, if it's an issue.
