blank screen with new geforcefx 5700 & no beeps

hello

I just got an Inno3D Tornado geforcefx 5700.
When I pull my old geforce 3 out put the new card in I get a blank screen and no beeps.

I have the lastest chipset drivers installed.

specs:

Mainboard
Manufacturer : ECS
MP Support : No
Model : M922
Version : 1.0

Processor
Model : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1500MHz
Speed : 1.50GHz

RAM: 768M

Does anybody have any ideas?

thanks

Does the monitor go into power-save on boot? Did you remove the old drivers first? Are you starting in VGA mode? Does it seem like the computer is doing a complete boot-up or does it seem to hang (judging on hard drive activity)? Do you have any way of telling if the card is being recognized?

Variously, the new card may not be initializing at boot, there could be a conflict w/ the old drivers, the card may be defective or not making good contact, or something else entirely ;-).

hello
thanks for the response.

Most times there is nothing on the monitor. Sometimes it will show the "check your pc" screen. I did remove the old drivers first. There is no hard drive activity, so I would say it is not booting at all. And since there are no beeps I'd say the card is not being recognized. And the card is making contact.

I read in another post that someone was having trouble with getting the same mainboard to get enough power to a comparable card. Think that may be it?

That's a good idea. I'd forgotten how much power the new cards require. How big is your power supply? It's possible that a new PS could fix the problem; there's a possiblity that the new card wants just enough power that the PS can't run it and the other items you have. There is an off chance that the mobo itself can't support it, but I think it's very doubtful.

If your PS is designed for the P4 chip, theoritically it should have enough juice, but you may need to look at the actual ratings on the supply itself. That whole "truth in advertising" bit. The peak power rating may be what's adverstised but the nominal rating may be too low.

Just something else to look at.
