There is no cheap service that does this... our company typically pays a place $1000.
But.... I've heard some good things about this program for $70.00.... I would definitely try it out.. they offer a money back guarantee. www.highergroundsoftware.com |

Software?People have suggested using a couple of different pieces of sortware. But if I understand correctly her disk physically crashed, so how could she run anything?

Assuming the head's aren't scraping the platters, and can still function, the data on the drive can still be read w/ certain types of software. At an absolute minimum (but at maximum cost) a data recovery firm can open the drive up in a clean room and pull the data directly off it.
The software option can be used depending on the type of crash, and the instructions will indicate what it can and can not do. __________________

... and you don't need a hard drive to run a computer. Most of the above software tools run from a boot floppy disk, or CD in some cases.
But if the hard drive is making a scraping noise whenever the PC is turned on, I doubt these tools will be mush use, and will simply cause more damage. |
