it seems that these are bad for linking and googlebot:
  1. Session IDs
  2. JScript
  3. VBScript
  4. Forms ('Jump to' kind)
  5. so we can assume JavaScript too?

other things not related to linking -
it doesn't cache or store cookies

What if I put the forum in the root dir and made it the main site
the only thing I was worried about was the meta tag for the search engines.

why worry about meta tags? the only ones (SE) you should care about are Google, MSN and to a certain extend Alta Vista and AllTheWeb...

Although most use the meta 'description'; almost none use meta 'keywords' so don't bother until you have the time to burn...

Be sure to use the page title well though!

btw, you can use all those javascript, form-jump-to and dhtml links on your pages but to be really SE friendly, you need to have those text links somewhere on your pages too (perhaps, somewhere discreet at the bottom?).

e.g. the voting pages for GIDTopsites? they used to have only the image SUBMIT button so as far as Google was concerned, the spidering ended there and I lost a lot of links INTO the list... a little thought, a few text links on each voting page and voila! a boost to the list over the past 1 month!

Would you know how to add the meta that I need to the index.php on the forums scripts? or is it already there in the script

even more than figuring out the meta tags for the forum perhaps it would be wiser for you to ask at ibf support on how to remove that session ids off the urls for guests (and SE spiders)!

ok I edit the file I was told to but I'm not sure what session ID is would you run to the board see if it gone or tell me what a ID is I think I know but I'm not sure.

Pcxgamers.com

Before I edit the index.php the URL looks like this:
http://www.pcxgamers.com/index.php?act=SF&f=4

After I edit the index.php URL looks like this:
http://www.pcxgamers.com/index.php?s=&act=SF&f=4

is that what you were talking about?

Thanks

  1. Your website still seems to be not listed on Google... YET!
  2. When you link to your homepage - use only one url; i.e. http://pcxgamer.com . NOT http://www.pcxgamer.com , not http://www.pcxgamer.com/index.php , NOT http://pcxgamer.com/index.php. Decide on one and stick to it!

THe session ids are now not showing, looks good; now we wait till the next re-index of Google (last week of December / 1st week of Jan).

DMOZ.org? well, you have to wait till a editor reviews your site, could take a while...
