Problems with Video Card

Hi,

I just recently got the '256MB Chaintech GeForce FX 5600XT' and when I install any drivers over 4.5.2.3 I get problems when I try to play most games. Like the game will load and I can hear the sounds and everything when it's in the menu or whatever but I can't see anything. Or when I load the game it's just a bunch of colours. I was just curious if anyone knew the cause of this or if anyone else has experienced this as well... my computer specs are below. I'm also running Windows XP Professional.

AMD Athlon 2100+ XP
Western Digital 80GB
256MB Chaintech GeForce FX 5600XT
768MB DDR PC2700 RAM
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Dolby
Asus A7A266 Mobo
Cicero 17" FlatScreen Monitor
Atlas Tower Case w/ 420W CWT PS
Aopen 10/100 PCI Network Card

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Yeah that's a problem.. most video cards are made to display video..

Yes, other people have had this problem in nvidia cards, mostly 5600 and 5700. Just look at all the past posts about them. Complaints about this line of cards makes up the skeleton of GID Hardware forums.

I've heard decreasing the AGP speed to 1x may fix the problem, and games still run pretty good. (it's better than not at all!)

If possible, check the temperature under display properties or something- I think GeForce has that. Try out older drivers as well. If getting a new driver is causing the problem, then most likely the new driver is causing the problem
