Do you have SP2 for XP? I found this link at the Lite-On site; at the bottom it discusses issues w/ SP2. It may help you.

The only other thing I can think of is check the forums at the Lite-On site for people who have similar problems and see if they found a fix. Beyond that, you may have to email tech support and get the "official answer".

Buffer Problem

Hi, I am having the same problem as Dark Serge where the buffer level goes up and down when I burn a Cd or Dvd. How do you change the PIO current transfer mode to DMA? When I click on the PIO current transfer mode is doesn't do anything... I can only click on the tab above it and thats set to DMA. I dunno what to do Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

it seems that you're on a windows XP OS'ed system with decent specs. i have a p4 3 ghz, 512 mb ddr sdram, 48x cdrw, with a whole lotta other stuff. the problem might inlie in your BIOS settings.

go to CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM > HARDWARE > click DEVICE MANAGER

now you should see a section called "IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS". expand that list, and there should be 3 items. dbl click wherever the IDE channels (primary master/slave or secondary master/slave) the cdrw drive is connected to (assuming that your cdrw drive is an internal IDE one), and click the ADVANCED SETTINGS tab. if any of your "Current Transfer Modes" are under "PIO" instead of DMA, then this is your problem.

When you start up your computer, get into your BIOS menu, and check your IDE/ATAPI drive settings. i have a dell, and dell, by default, turned the primary slave and the secondary slave to "off". i just had to change that value to "auto" and it started working fine for me.

hopefully this will help you. good luck!

Seriously....you are my freak'n HERO!! I had the same problem as the others after I had formatted my PC (DELL) and re-installed XP. I was trying to burn a DVD on my secondary slave burner and it was erratic. I tried other software than Nero, other discs, and was ready to smash my burner. Luckily before I did I read your post....it works great now! I think I love you.

Re: My CD Burner is burning slow

Afireinside01 - Read the post that I quoted. In order to change that tab from PIO to DMA, you have to do it in your BIOS. You can't change it in Windows with Device Manager.

Re: My CD Burner is burning slow

Additionally if you have two drives on one ide channel try placing the burner on the primary. I had the same problem but switching my burner to primary fixed my buffer levels and am now burning much much faster...buffer level at 98-99% instead of hovering around 20% or so.

Re: My CD Burner is burning slow

I am having a problem with slow burning but my buffer level is fine. I have been using Nero for a couple of months and never had a problem. Yesterday I tried to burn a disc and the estimated burn time is the same yet when the time is up it is still only at 14%. What used to take 8 minutes now takes over and hour. I don't know much about fixing problems. I have uninstalled and re-installed Nero but still have the same problem. Can someone please help? Thanks

Re: My CD Burner is burning slow

I looked in device manager and it said my drive under DMA but when I looked in Nero system info it said DMA mode is off on that drive. How do I fix this?
