Question

Is this a good idea?

Hi all,

I have this sight http://home.doramail.com/eightpoint:doramail.com/ which is a copy of http://www.eightpoint.co.uk, the mirror points all links to to the main site, is anyone else doing this with free sites, if so is it beneficial.

Please explain what this has to do with FREE Web Hosting? Otherwise I am going to have to mess with this thread...

I doubt it will help with rankings. In order to work your way up the pagerank system, your site needs to be linked to by established sites with a high pagerank. I'm not quite sure what you expect to do with this, and as J said, this seems more like a thread concerning site promotion than free hosting.

Worse than that, your site could easily be hit by a 'duplicate content' penalty by the search engines, in which case one or both sites will likely be banned. I would suggest taking down this site and leaving the http://www.eightpoint.co.uk/ on its own. If you really need a backup, get a second cheap hosting account in case your current host goes down for a long period of time so that you can upload the site to the backup server, change the nameservers and be back online within 24 hours.

That would be a good idea, but I don't think martinelder is using the free host page as a backup. All the links on his mirror point back to the main site.
