My friend's Geforce FX 5700 Problems

Hi everyone

My friend is having some problems with his new Geforce FX 5700 and I'd like to see if you guys can help me. Here is the deal, he just got an upgrade on his system, improving everything, and all was going well except everytime he loaded a game up the screen was distorted and has random chopped up colors all over it. He thought the video card was probobly a dud so he sent it back and waited to get the next one. While he had his previous Radeon 8500 in (with his NEW system) the games ran fine, without the strange color distortions. Now when he got his new Geforce FX 5700, it gave him the same problem. What are the chances of getting 2 duds in a row right? He has the newest drivers installed and we have searched many forums and asked around. We assume it can't be anything else with his computer because everything functioned properly with his old Radeon card. My only sugguestion to him was a new power supply, because the FX could be hogging more than it has to offer. (He has a 420 Watt Power Supply). The games he tried to run were Farcry, UT2004, Hitman Contracts, and even old Half-Life was strange. Any help would be most appreciated, and here are his CPU Specs:

AMD Athlon 2800+, Soyo KT600 Dragon plus, 512mb RAM, Nvidia Geforce FX5700 256mb

I hope you guys can find a solution, thanks in advance

Everyone with a later-model GeForce is having the same problems. I don't think a few here and there are duds- I think the whole line is a big dud and it should be recalled.

Tell your friend to stick with his old Radeon. It's better to have games that play okay than not at all. If he wants to upgrade, perhaps he will get a new Radeon.
