Question

Detect number of pages when printed?

Hi everyone, first time poster here. I'm hoping someone can help me here. I've spent the past several hours googling for the answer to this issue but to no avail.

Backstory: I have taken all of my employer's Policies and Procedures and moved them to a database with a web front-end. At the top of each policy (just page 1) is a header that says "Page 1 of X." Right now I have it hard-coded to "Page 1 of 1" since I don't know what the value of X is.

Is there any way to display the number of pages that a web page will be when it is printed? I know that the value is designated as "&P" when referring to its value in IE's page setup for printing, but I need it displayed to the end user when he/she is just viewing the page.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide.

Classic ASP with a SQL Server backend. The app runs on an intranet so I can say with confidence that the users are strictly using Internet Explorer browsers.

I'm guessing that I'll need some kind of JavaScript or even an ActiveX component to get this accomplished (if it's even possible, which I'm starting to doubt).
