why didnt XP load TCPIP.SYS file?

When I loaded on XP it said couldnt install TCPIP.SYS and skipping this process may stop things working....and of course it did!! I guess this file is to do with the internet.

Does anyone know why it wouldn't load on and if it can just be installed off the XP cd into C:\windows\system32\drivers??

Thanks
