Well yes, in XP that is what we wanted.

However in the DOS prompt of the floppy, the C drive won't be visible because it is NTFS.

Choose bootup without CD support when you're asked - we don't want the CD drive's letter confusing things even more!.

If there was only 1 hard disk in your computer, formatted as NTFS, there will be no C: drive visible from DOS. Typing 'C:' will give you an error. Hopefully by the end of the above instructions, a C drive will appear (may need to reboot into the floppy disk again before the format command).

This C: drive from the DOS floppy will be your D: drive in XP! (Fingers crossed).

Right click the link & choose 'Save Target as'!

It's get a .jpg extension to internet explorer thinks it can open it.
Good luck! I'm off for an extra long weekend, but I'll try to check back regularily.

Tried going to Add/Remove the tcpip.sys file and managed to remove it, retarted PC to try and reinstall and the PC locks up. Still cant find the missing hard drive either

I received a PC from a friend. Just to confuse things there are 2 hard drives in it. It Had Windows ME loaded on but because of all the other rubbish that was also loaded on I decided to format my Hard Drive. I managed to load ME back on but couldnt change the display resolution. I tried loading the monitor drivers on from CD (Samsung Syncmaster 172V) but got an error with monsetup and a dirapi.dll file (god knows what that means)
I thought Id be clever and upgrade to Windows XP Home which i borrowed off a friend.
Worked out the Windows XP doesnt boot from a setup disk but somehow managed to get Windows XP (the display resolution was fine with XP) and Windows ME loaded on at the same time so when I start the PC it asks which OS to run.

I tried again, firstly I wanted to format both hard drives. All i wanted was WIndows XP on.
Drive C: formatted fine but Drive D: didnt. I think during the installation I created a partition. I need to remove the partition and dont know how???
As for loading on just Windows XP
Having searched Google (good ol' Google) I need to change the BIOS to boot from a CD first. HOw do i do that? Press del during the loading. Can get the BIOS screen or whatever its called up. Found the part for changing boot sequence. What do i change it to and when do i have to change it back??

Thanks for any help

Vicky

First of all while starting your pc you must press continously f2 and del (not sure which will work for your hardware),
it will get you into bios.

then there is an option called BOOT settings, select and make cd boot first.
starting the cd will be asked to press any key-press-
first screen you will go to install win xp, then when it will locate the hard disk it will give you the option to erase the partitions and go and install winxp on the entire hdd.

Thank god. The PC is sorted. Thanks for all your help. Downloaded the TCPIP.SYS file and loaded it on. The internet works.

Re-formatted and loaded Windows XP on. When WIndows XP loaded on it asks what partition you want to load it onto. I deleted the partition on the slave drive and partitioned it as one big one then loaded windows on my primary drive and my missing drive has re appeared!!!

YEAH. Thanks for all the help guys
