Hi bearky if I was you I would use a tried and tested script like BBforum. It is easy to modify and with a bit of playing around a unique looking forum can be created. BB also has lots of add-ons to change the default theme if you dont have time to change the complete layout.

A lot depends on how much you want to change the forum to suit your site design. Everybody has their own personal favs, phpbb being mine

There's a tutorial on how to write a WWW forum (that's the forum that looks like an outline) on http://www.webmonkey.com. Of course, it's always easier to just take phpBB, IPB, or one of the existing scripts. But if you want something original, or if you just enjoy programming, it's not too hard to create a simple forum. The hard part there is not coding but keeping track of all the different features. I've done a pretty complex guestbook before, and I think a forum would be just an extension of that.

Please explain what is wrong with these forum packages, what do you want that is not contained in these packages?

This forum uses VB! It is not free.
VB is licenced and has good support.

Phpbb1 and 2 are use by thousands of forums phpbb com is a great source of information on building forums and modifications.

It would take you years to build something as good as any of the above packages.

If you dont have php or mysql on host, move to a better host.

man, ... VB is very Good, it's Great ! but i can't buy. for me is hard.
phpbb is without archive and this's not good for google. and phpbb is without fasterpost or quicepost. IPB and VB are with quice post.
