When server migrations go wrong...

Have any members been affected by Pegasus/Dedicated Now's move out of Net Access (NAC)?

The move began last night and many servers still aren't up. Luckily my service has now been up for a couple of hours, but reading some of the other webmaster boards, this move has been nothing less than a disaster. As per posts/reports there were between 1500 and 3000 servers to move - so you can imagine the number of websites hosted that have had major downtime.

Once this gets sorted I will have to start looking at some sort of contingency plan.

First, Pegasus decided to wait until about 24 hours prior to the "first move" but later decided to not go with it.

Everyone was very upset about this, because hosting companies had to tell their clients that not only did they not have enough notice, that after they looked bad (by not providing notice about the move) they had to respond by saying this was not going to happen anymore.

So the 24 hours that most people had to spend hours making backups of their server, ended up being a simple waste of time.

Now, people were like "This is their last chance, if they don't give us notice next time, I am going to be moving." Well, it has happened again, with very little notice. You will find out that many small hosting companies are having a great deal of problems with getting things together after the move.

There are well over 3,000 server that are going to be moved. What do we tell our clients?

I know someone who actually went and visited the new DC, said it was very nice, and looked like something he should get into. Well, it has been all hell with Pegasus.

I could only blame pegasus for this problem.

As far as I know, the new DC is just 5 minutes down the street from NAC (according to someone else, dunno for sure though).

Bobby,

I spent most of today reading the various forums, waiting for my sites to come back online and reading the Pegasus vs NAC lawsuit. All in all, a very poorly planned move and an ugly situation.

I haven't heard much about the lawsuit, have any links to share with me on that one? Was it about access problems?

Wow, what a mess! Is this all sorted now? You have a dedicated server now, Div?

- You will stir hear about this for another 3-5 months down the road.

Many problems happen when servers are taken down for more than 12 hours. Some people might have a website that was supposed to be online at a specific time when the server was actually down, thus losing a lot of business.

Small things like this is where major problems will be.

It sucks when your hosting company is given little notice, and it sucks even more when your hosting company gives you even shorter notice, and to add to the suckage, it sucks even more when they do not move the server right and allow a huge amout of downtime.
