Hello nmlco,

First, the facts to-date:
  • You have just 4 pages off your web site indexed in Google. You find that out by submitting a query like site:nmlco.com "+www.nmlco.+com". Out of which 3 seem to be on their way out. I think that's what "supplemental result" usually means... not sure though.
  • You have 0 webpages linking to your homepage. This is not good since it gives Google the impression that the homepage (site) is not worth much to any other site as a resource or reference. You find this out (aka Link Popularity) by searching Google with a phrase like: link:www.nmlco.com.

Now that you know how to gauge your site with Google, next you need to know how to diagnose the issues that you might be facing. Google is pretty good following links to the rest of your site usually and if that doesn't seem to be happening, you can be certain there's a problem with your homepage. It doesn't matter what you see when you go to your homepage, it matters what Googlebot sees when it fetches your homepage.

To quickly see what Google saw at your homepage, look at the cached version of your homepage it has in it's index. I notice that your cached version and what you have there now are 2 different homepages, so it's probably just a matter of time before GoogleBot grabs the rest of your 'updated' homepage (site).

One thing I don't get is why the useless flash thingy on your homepage? Your homepage should be rich with content and links to the rest of your site...

Getting links from other sites will help you with other search engines as well (not just Google) and is a good way of getting more traffic. I would focus on this aspect.

What is the best way to go about getting links to your site from others sites?

Link exchange? Partnerships, etc? Do some people just contact webmasters of sites, and ask them? Whats the best method. Thanks.

What webmasters normally do is submit thier homepage to some of those popular Web Directories like the ODP. Unfortunately, this is not as simple as it sounds, these days...

Then some identify their KEY words / phrases e.g. "mortgage", do a search on Google, check out the websites on the SERP and contact the webmasters off the first few pages with requests to exchange links. If your site has 0 PR / you are trying to promote a BRAND new site, prepare to be ignored!

Yet some others simply avoid all the hassle and purchase links on other (high PR) web pages for a reasonable, monthly fee. Again, you should contact the webmaster directly with an offer...

Of course, there are other ideas (like registering and posting at related forums) and getting your links in your posts (i.e. off your signature) etc.... just use your imagination, guys!

That was a subtle hint.

Actually, I forgot one other suggestion: you can have a "Link to Us" page on your website complete with various sized banners and / or sample text links so other webmasters can help themselves linking back to your homepage - I know it worked in the 90s, maybe these days even newbies are not so naive.
